Lambert's Bay provides some of the best bird watching in the Western Cape. The jewel in the crown is undoubtedly the readily accessible seabird breeding colonies on the internationally famous Bird Island, which is the most accessible Cape gannet colony in the world. You can experience a face to face encounter with the Cape gannet as Bird Island provides shelter and protection for thousands of sea-birds, particularly Cape gannets, various species of cormorants and penguins.
From the modern gannet look-out, visitors can witness the unique mating dances (April -September) and captivating vocalising of thousands of gannets. The visitors' centre on Bird Island also offers an aquarium portraying sea life on the West Coast, a penguin pool, an auditorium with shows and guided tours.
